🧩  Slack API Changes

Slack’s new API restrictions limit how third-party bots operate. For Unleash in Slack, this means:

  • Stricter rate limits now apply to non-marketplace apps.

  • Bulk data extraction is blocked.

We’ve implemented compliant workarounds to ensure Unleash continues delivering powerful search and assistant capabilities.

What’s Changed:

Bot Access: An admin must still add the Unleash app for Slack to your Slack workspace. Now, when you add the bot to a channel, it will no longer automatically create an assistant. Instead, this action enables indexing of that channel’s content.

Once you’ve invited the bot to a channel, you can…

  • Index the Channel: To index a channel’s content into your Unleash workspace and make it available as a knowledge source for assistants, you’ll need to manually create a new Slack source in Unleash.

  • Adding Assistants: To add an assistant to a Slack channel, you must create it manually in the Unleash app and enter the Slack channel ID where you want the assistant to appear. Learn more.

For existing customers with bots and sources already synced to Slack, all current links and channels will remain unchanged. The new method applies only when indexing additional channels or adding new bots.

Managing Slack Assistants: The Slack Add-On page has been removed. You can now manage allowing members to create Slack Channel Assistants from the Permissions page in Unleash.

🧑🏽‍💻 Slack Assistant Identity Management

You can now assign or reassign the identity of an assistant.

  • Default behavior: By default, the creator of the assistant is set as its identity. The assistant operates on behalf of that identity, using the user’s permissions to access data and generate responses.

  • Reassigning identity: Admins and users with full access can reassign the assistant’s identity to another user. The new identity holder will:

    • Receive a Slack notification confirming the transfer

    • Gain the ability to edit the assistant’s connected sources and permissions

  • Source access: The data sources and permissions available to an assistant are determined by the selected identity. This means the assistant can only connect to sources the identity user has access to.

  • Impact of changes: Updating an assistant’s identity may affect which data sources remain available.

This update gives teams more flexibility in managing assistants while keeping data access secure and aligned with user permissions.

🕹️ Feature Control Toggles

Admins can now toggle all workspace features, including Home, Search, and People, in addition to the previous features: Favorites, Go Links, Collections, and Wikis. This provides greater flexibility to tailor the platform to your organization’s needs, and enables those seeking an assistant-focused workspace to create a clean, minimal look. Chat is always on by default and cannot be toggled off. Learn more.

đź“‘ Expand LLM Assistant Knowledge with File Uploads

You can now expand your LLM Assistant’s knowledge by uploading specific documents, enabling it to generate more accurate, relevant, and organization-specific answers, beyond its general training data.

File uploads are currently supported for Assistants using GPTs (support for additional models coming soon). You can upload up to 20 files per Assistant, with a maximum file size of 50MB per file and 20MB for images. View the full list of supported file types.
